Jack McFann was also part of our Summer 2025 intern class – we are sad to see him go, but excited to see where his future endeavors take him. He is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in political science at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. Following the completion of his summer internship, he plans to return to Florida to finish his senior year. His plans to apply to law school, with the long-term ambition of becoming a practicing attorney.
For his final presentation, Jack explored the growing use of AI in health insurance claims processing. He chose this topic due to the recent surge in public interest surrounding AI and the surprising discovery that it has been utilized in claims processing long before its rise in the mainstream. His research revealed that health insurers have been using AI not only to reduce staffing and streamline operations but often in lieu of human oversight. He discussed three current class action lawsuits challenging the fairness of such practices and emphasized the policy uncertainty surrounding AI regulation in the U.S. He emphasized the uncertain future of this topic, largely due to inconsistent U.S. policy on AI regulation and the unresolved status of the current legal challenges.
