APEC STUDIES ON BUSINESS TRAVEL, FINTECH, AND GENDER IN TRANSPORT

Jul 22, 2025

Washington CORE has worked with Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for more than a decade. In the past year, APEC has published the following three studies authored by Washington CORE. The link in the title of each study leads to the final report published on the APEC website.

  1. Performance Review Study of the APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) Scheme

Conducted a post-pandemic performance review of the APEC Business Travel Card (ABTC) program, which streamlines business travel across APEC economies. Building on the 2014 end-to-end review conducted by Washington CORE, the project evaluated how effectively the scheme is meeting its current goals. We carried out a full-day workshop in Lima, Peru to identify ongoing challenges and opportunities for improvement.

  1. Building a FinTech Ecosystem for the Recovery of the MSME Sector

Under the oversight of the Ministry of Production of Peru (PRODUCE), we conducted a comprehensive study on policies for a fintech sector that supports micro, small, and medium-sized businesses across APEC. Our work included an online workshop and a report with case studies of best practices for inclusive fintech environments across several economies.

  1. Mainstreaming Gender in the Transport Workforce for Sustainability

Washington CORE assessed ways to improve gender equality in the APEC region’s transport workforce, where women remain underrepresented despite growing demand for new skills and sustainable practices. The project examined the challenges and barriers to women’s participation, evaluated current policies and initiatives across APEC economies, and identified best practices and policy gaps. The findings were further discussed in a knowledge-sharing workshop supported by Washington CORE in Ha Noi, Viet Nam in March 2024.
