Many of Washington CORE’s clients are keenly interested in the topic of infrastructure development. The widespread fiscal challenges to finance new projects amidst increasing demand, aging assets, and climate change threats has greatly increased urgency around infrastructure-related topics. WCORE set out to research certain advanced technologies and innovative approaches that showed promise in addressing some of these challenges. This led us to the Infrastructure Transitions Research Consortium (ITRC) in the United Kingdom and spoke to its director, Professor Jim Hall, which is employing advanced simulation and modeling techniques to target investments based on a detailed understanding of infrastructure networks and vulnerabilities.
